MEGABUCKS began awkwardly and was slow to begin. FAST GO was slow to begin. From outside barriers, HIGH RETURN, EXPLODING and NATURAL FLAME were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Also shortly after the start, ACHILLES OF TROY shifted out, resulting in FLYING CHINA being taken out onto VALUE CHOICE which became unbalanced and in turn shifted out and bumped HIGH RETURN. For some distance approaching and rounding the turn near the 1000 Metres, RUGBY HEAVEN got its head up and proved difficult to settle. After travelling wide in the early stages, EXPLODING was taken back passing the 800 Metres to a position with cover behind HIGH RETURN to avoid continuing racing wide. Passing the 600 Metres, MEGABUCKS was bumped when crowded for room by WOODSTOCK which got its head on the side and shifted in slightly. Over the concluding stages, ACHILLES OF TROY hung in under pressure. Throughout the race, FLYING CHINA travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of FAST GO after the race revealed that the horse was lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, FAST GO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GOLDEN BAUHINIA and ACHILLES OF TROY were sent for sampling.
