After leaving the Parade Ring, LUCKY AMORE proved difficult to proceed to the course proper and backed up on a number of occasions, resulting in the horse making contact with a rail on more than one occasion. On arrival at the Start, LUCKY AMORE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. YOUNG SUPREME shifted out at the start and bumped PIZZAZZ. STAR SON was slow to begin. From outside barriers, HEADSIWIN and INDUSTRIAL HERO were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. For some distance approaching the 1100 Metres, LEADING CITY raced tight outside PIZZAZZ when awkwardly placed inside LUCKY AMORE (M Chadwick) which at this time had its head on the side and shifted in. M Chadwick was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he makes every effort to provide his fellow riders with sufficient racing room. In this incident, LEADING CITY and PIZZAZZ came together on a number of occasions. After this, LEADING CITY and PIZZAZZ bumped on a number of occasions as PIZZAZZ maintained its position one off the fence and LEADING CITY (B Prebble) shifted in. B Prebble was advised that whilst the Stewards appreciate competitive riding, he should be cautious as to the amount of pressure he places on other runners during a race. Near the 850 Metres, MASCOT FORTUNE was steadied away from the heels of LEADING CITY which shifted in when barely clear. Passing the 200 Metres and again near the 150 Metres, HEADSIWIN had some difficulty obtaining clear running. In the Straight, LUCKY AMORE compounded badly. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY AMORE after the race revealed the horse to be distressed and to be making an abnormal breathing noise. The Veterinary Officer reported that LUCKY AMORE was found to have complete laryngeal paralysis of the left side of the throat. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY AMORE will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. The performances of MACHO EXPRESS and YOUNG SUPREME, which finished tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MACHO EXPERSSO and YOUNG SUPREME will both be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of MACHO EXPRESSO and YOUNG SUPREME after the race did not show any significant findings. MASCOT FORTUNE and PIZZAZZ were sent for sampling.
