ZACHARY was slow to begin and lost a considerable amount of ground at the start. Before being allowed to race again, ZACHARY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. WINNING APEX and LOMBARDI bumped at the start. After the 1200 Metres, PERCY JACKSON commenced to prove difficult to settle and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CRAIG’S PRIDE for some distance. Approaching the 800 Metres, WINNING APEX was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of JIMSON THE BEST. O Doleuze (WINNING APEX) was fined a sum of $2,000 for raising his whip arm above shoulder height. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CLASSIC JEWELLERY, D Whyte said that although his mount was drawn wide, he was able to shift across towards the rail in the early stages without having to make undue use of CLASSIC JEWELLERY. He said making the first turn he shifted CLASSIC JEWELLERY in behind JIMSON THE BEST and the horse travelled well until rounding the Home Turn at which stage he was not able to position CLASSIC JEWELLERY to prevent WINNING APEX from shifting out to his inside. He added in the early part of the Straight CLASSIC JEWELLERY immediately came under pressure and after this weakened noticeably over the final 200 Metres. Trainer J Size advised that it is now his intention to give CLASSIC JEWELLERY a let-up following today’s race. A veterinary inspection of BLESSING and CLASSIC JEWELLERY after the race did not show any significant findings. CLASSIC JEWELLERY, ELEGANCE KLAMMER and WINNING APEX were sent for sampling.
