GENTLEMEN began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of HAPPY FRIENDSHIP which in turn shifted in and bumped DOUBLE POINT. Shortly after the start, ROCK THE TREE was bumped by RHODE ASSASSIN which shifted in after being bumped by DYNAMIC LIONS. From wide barriers, EQUITY DOCTRINE, MY FOLKS and CELESTIAL ARROW were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After travelling a short distance, GENTLEMEN became unbalanced and lost ground when bumped by HAPPY FRIENDSHIP. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, HAPPY FRIENDSHIP got its head up when being steadied to obtain cover. After the 1400 Metres, MY FOLKS (K C Ng), which was travelling keenly, got its head up when being checked away from the heels of EQUITY DOCTRINE. K C Ng stated that when this happened MY FOLKS commenced to prove difficult to settle, got its head on the side and hung out, resulting in the horse racing wide and without cover. He said he therefore allowed MY FOLKS to improve its position after the 1100 Metres when obliged to race wide. Approaching the 1300 Metres, DYNAMIC LIONS raced in restricted room close to the heels of RHODE ASSASSIN. Passing the 1300 Metres, BEST JADE TRIUMPH got its head up when awkwardly placed outside the heels of HAPPY FRIENDSHIP. Approaching the 1000 Metres, EQUITY DOCTRINE was awkwardly placed behind BEST JADE TRIUMPH. Approaching the 800 Metres, EQUITY DOCTRINE was bumped by DOUBLE POINT which shifted out after commencing to travel keenly and improving to be racing close to the heels of HAPPY FRIENDSHIP. Near the 150 Metres, EQUITY DOCTRINE shifted in and bumped DOUBLE POINT. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY FRIENDSHIP and FAITHFUL BOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. HAPPY FRIENDSHIP, FURIOUS PEGASUS and WINNINGLI were sent for sampling.
