THREE CLUBS was slow to begin. KIWI DASH began awkwardly. Near the 1400 Metres, MASTER ABLE was steadied when crowded for room inside MAGIC TOUCH. S K Sit (DANESIS) dropped his whip after the 100 Metres. Throughout the race, SOUND OF SILENCE and GALAXY DANCER travelled wide and without cover. D Whyte (MAGIC TOUCH) said his mount from a good barrier travelled slightly further forward than is usual as it was racing first up from a spell and was fresh. He said MAGIC TOUCH travelled satisfactorily in the early and middle stages, after entering the Home Straight initially kept on fairly, however, when KIWI DASH improved on his inside at the 150 Metres, MAGIC TOUCH became unbalanced in its action. He said because of this he stopped riding his mount out until it regained its action, however, from that point onwards MAGIC TOUCH only finished the race off fairly. G Mossé (CHINSOLA) said his mount obtained a nice position just in front of midfield, however, did not relax and over-raced. He said in his opinion because CHINSOLA did not relax, the horse failed to finish the race off as hoped. F Coetzee was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of MYTHIC STEED. He said MYTHIC STEED began only fairly and then in the early stages was positioned outside GOLD DIGGER which was not showing sufficient pace to go forward. He said he therefore steadied his mount and shifted across behind other runners to avoid being caught wide. He said MYTHIC STEED travelled only fairly throughout the race and in the Straight did not respond to his riding and was disappointing. MAGIC TOUCH, CHINSOLA and MYTHIC STEED were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MAGIC TOUCH, CHINSOLA and MYTHIC STEED after the race did not show any significant findings. KIWI DASH, DANESIS and DASH were sent for sampling.
