Shortly after the start, ZERO GRAVITY was crowded for room between DIAGHILEV and TOP SPEED, both of which shifted ground. TELECOM EMPEROR began awkwardly. ELEPHANT STAR was slow to begin. After the 1000 Metres, CHEERFUL HAPPINESS was steadied away from the heels of DAYLIGHT EXPRESS. Making the Home Turn, CHEERFUL HAPPINESS hung out. Prior to straightening, TOP SPEED was carried wider by TELECOM EMPEROR which shifted out after being bumped by HEADINGLEY which shifted wider. In the early part of the Straight, MUTUAL GAIN was held up and unable to obtain clear running. At the 250 Metres, TOP SPEED, which was commencing to give ground, was checked after being bumped by MUTUAL GAIN which was carried out by TELECOM EMPEROR which after initially shifting in then shifted out abruptly when being straightened by its rider, B Prebble. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Near the 200 Metres, PLEASURE PLEASURE was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running inside WINNING CHAMP which was giving ground. At the 150 Metres, GENERAL SPEEDEE broke down and was eased out of the race. When GENERAL SPEEDEE broke down, it shifted out and bumped ZERO GRAVITY. Over the concluding stages, ACTIVE VALOUR hung out and proved difficult to ride. Throughout the race, TOP SPEED travelled wide and without cover. ELEPHANT STAR and TELECOM EMPEROR were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ELEPHANT STAR and TELECOM EMPEROR after the race did not show any significant findings. MUTUAL GAIN and DAYLIGHT EXPRESS were sent for sampling.
