SPLENDID SAILS was slow to begin. LIONS’ FORTUNE began awkwardly and lost ground. REDOUTE’S FORTUNE, which was leaning against the barrier when the start was effected, was bumped shortly after the start by NEW LEADER, resulting in both horses losing ground. Approaching the 1000 Metres, IMPLIED VOLATILITY was steadied away from the heels of BLUE MAGIC which was hanging in. When BLUE MAGIC was shifted out to relieve the tightening to IMPLIED VOLATILITY, it was checked away from the heels of SAPELLI. Apprentice T H So reported that for some distance following this incident, BLUE MAGIC proved difficult to settle and raced close to the heels of SAPELLI and continued to hang in for the remainder of the race. GOUF hung out rounding the Home Turn. For some distance passing the 400 Metres, SAPELLI raced tight between GOOD FORTUNE (B Prebble) and BLUE MAGIC which hung in despite the efforts of its rider. In this incident, SAPELLI was struck across the nose by the whip of B Prebble. For some distance approaching and passing the 100 Metres, FANTASTISCH was steadied when tightened for room inside GOOD FORTUNE which shifted in slightly when tiring. Throughout the race, HAPPY PROGRESSION travelled wide and without cover. IMPLIED VOLATILITY and FOREST STAR were sent for sampling. <2/10/2009 Additional Veterinary Report> The Veterinary Officer advised the Stewards that Mr C H Yip, the trainer of GOUF, reported to him this morning that the horse was inappetent. Before being allowed to race again, GOUF will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
