As Apprentice K C Leung was overweight, C W Wong was substituted as the rider of FORTUNE DRAGON. Apprentice Leung was fined the sum of $5,000. Trainer K L Man was fined the sum of $3,000 for presenting MOONGLOW in the Parade Ring with a visor rather than blinkers in which it had been declared to run. When the gates opened, ZEPHYRUS lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin. Passing the 800 Metres, MOONGLOW was steadied when crowded for room inside UPSIDE OF ANGER which shifted in when being checked away from the heels of HIGH NOTE which itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of LUCKYME (Y T Cheng) which after being shifted in to race outside the leader steadied. Y T Cheng was advised to ensure he does not allow the pace to excessively slacken in races. WINNING PAL and ZEPHYRUS, which were following, were checked in consequence and GREEN GLORY was hampered. For some distance after this, UPSIDE OF ANGER continued to be checked when awkwardly placed close to the heels of HIGH NOTE, shifted out and bumped FORTUNE DRAGON on a number of occasions. At the entrance to the Straight, UPSIDE OF ANGER was checked away from the heels of SUPREME DRAGON which commenced to give ground. Near the 250 Metres, MOONGLOW, which had been held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight, was steadied when disappointed for running between HIGH NOTE which shifted in when weakening and WINNING PAL which shifted out to obtain clear running. In the Straight, FOREST FOUNTAIN hung in and over the concluding stages shifted ground inwards abruptly. Also in the Straight, ZEPHYRUS hung in. Throughout the race, SUPREME DRAGON travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. A veterinary inspection of BATURO after the race did not show any significant findings. ZEPHYRUS, FOREST FOUNTAIN and DASH AHEAD were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that LUCKYME had sustained a small cut to the left hind pastern.
