FORTUNE RED PEPPER began awkwardly. At the entrance to the Straight, GRAND DRAGON (J Lloyd) struck the heels of GRAND DANCER which became unbalanced. J Lloyd was advised to avoid racing too close to the heels of runners in front. D Whyte was severely reprimanded for permitting APPRECIATION to shift out approaching the 200 Metres when insufficiently clear of FORTUNE RED PEPPER, causing that horse to be steadied and shifted in to obtain clear running. Throughout the race, RIVER JORDAN travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, Y T Cheng (BIG PROFIT) said that he had to make some use of the horse to cross runners making the first turn. He said that after shifting in to race outside APPRECIATION, BIG PROFIT travelled only fairly and in the Straight was disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding. A veterinary inspection of BIG PROFIT after the race did not show any significant findings. FAT CHOY ICHIBAN and GRAND DRAGON were sent for sampling.
