On arrival at the Start, LOMBARDI, which made contact with a rail on leaving the Parade Ring, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. CLASSA was slow to begin. In the early stages, BESPOKE MASTER proved difficult to settle. In the early and middle stages, LEADING CITY travelled wide and without cover. Shortly after entering the Straight, CLASSA was steadied away from the heels of POLYGOLD. When questioned, M W Leung stated that he had been instructed to ensure that MY GOAL was settled in the early stages. He said he was advised that the horse can prove difficult to settle with the blinkers on if use was made of it in the early stages. He said MY GOAL began well and he did not ride it along in the early stages in accordance with his instructions. He said MY GOAL settled well in the run and after being momentarily held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight finished off the race fairly. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of LOMBARDI, J Lloyd said his mount travelled well in a midfield position, however, when placed under pressure in the Straight was disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding. A veterinary inspection of LOMBARDI after the race did not show any significant findings. SHINING VICTORY and LEADING CITY were sent for sampling.
