FAT DRAGON was slow to begin and then shortly after the start was crowded for room between SUISSE D’OR and MIGHTY FEELING which shifted out. After this, despite being ridden along, FAT DRAGON failed to muster speed. Near the 1300 Metres, HEADSIWIN got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SUISSE D’OR. Passing the 1200 Metres, SABINA shifted in despite the efforts of its rider, causing MIGHTY FEELING to be crowded for room. Rounding the Home Turn, SUISSE D’OR was bumped by FAT DRAGON which shifted out. Then at the entrance to the Straight, SUISSE D’OR raced in restricted room between LEGEND LOVERS and FAT DRAGON which was taken out by MIGHTY FEELING. Passing the 200 Metres, SABINA (Apprentice M L Yeung) shifted in and hampered TOM’S EIGHTH. In this incident, TOM’S EIGHTH was struck across the nose by the whip of Apprentice Yeung. For a short distance after this, TOM’S EIGHTH raced in restricted room inside SABINA. Throughout the race, LEGEND LOVERS travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DIVIDE KID, B Prebble stated that he was not able to account for the horse’s performance today other than his opinion that it did not appear to stretch out as it has done when he has ridden it in the past. A veterinary inspection of DIVINE KID after the race did not show any significant findings. DIVINE KID, HEALTHY BLUEBERRY and COMPACT YARN were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that SABINA had sustained a cut to the right hind tendon region. Before being allowed to race again, SABINA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
