PAPER WINS was withdrawn on 4.9.10 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, PAPER WINS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. OASIS DAVIS and NEW IDEA were slow to begin. For some distance passing the 800 Metres, NEW IDEA was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GRANDWAY FLYER. Passing the 700 Metres, OASIS DAVIS was steadied away from the heels of CHEERFUL DOUBLE. Throughout the race, GRANDWAY FLYER travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding his riding out of CHEERFUL DOUBLE in the Straight, B Prebble stated that he followed QUELLE SURPRISE throughout the race and shifted out behind that horse shortly after straightening with a mind to follow that horse through as he considered it to be a chance in the race. He said passing the 400 Metres he shifted to the outside of QUELLE SURPRISE and positioned CHEERFUL DOUBLE to take a run between that horse and KOWLOON PRIDE. He said at various times in the Straight there was restricted racing room between KOWLOON PRIDE and QUELLE SURPRISE and for this reason he was not able to properly test the horse with the whip, however, he was of the belief that CHEERFUL DOUBLE was giving of its all under strong hands and heels riding and would not have benefited by more use being made of the whip. B Prebble was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, where circumstances permit he should test his mounts in such a manner that leaves no room for query. FIONN’S DRAGON and UNITED were sent for sampling.
