GOLDEN BOY began awkwardly. When being taken across behind runners shortly after the start, CASA JUNIOR was steadied away from the heels of REAL GENERAL which itself was being steadied in order to be shifted across behind runners. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, KINGSTON ELITE raced tight inside GOLDEN BOY which was taken in slightly by SCENT OF OSMANTHUS. HONG KONG FAT, which was following, was steadied in consequence, shifted in and brushed the running rail, causing the horse to become unbalanced. Then near the 1300 Metres, KINGSTON ELITE again momentarily raced in restricted room inside GOLDEN BOY which got its head on the side and shifted in away from SCENT OF OSMANTHUS. Passing the 1300 Metres, TELECOM TOP STAR was crowded for room between HONG KONG FAT and GORGEOUS LIFE which shifted in momentarily. After the 1200 Metres, SADDLERS LODGE was left racing wide and without cover. For some distance after the 1100 Metres, GOLDEN BOY got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of YOUNG SUPREME. GORGEOUS LIFE and TELECOM TOP STAR, which were following, were hampered in consequence. REAL GENERAL, which was following TELECOM TOP STAR, struck the heels of that horse and blundered approaching the 1000 Metres. At the 900 Metres, TELECOM TOP STAR commenced to race ungenerously and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of GORGEOUS LIFE. TELECOM TOP STAR then shifted in, resulting in DARK SECRET being crowded for room. Near the 800 Metres, DARK SECRET got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CASA JUNIOR. Shortly after entering the Straight, TELECOM TOP STAR was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GORGEOUS LIFE. Near the 100 Metres, CASA JUNIOR was steadied when disappointed for running between YOUNG SUPREME and HONG KONG FAT. After this, CASA JUNIOR was shifted to the outside of HONG KONG FAT to obtain clear running. SPARKLING was unable to obtain clear running over the final 150 Metres and because of this was not able to be properly tested. Over the concluding stages, DARK SECRET was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SCENT OF OSMANTHUS. Because of this, DARK SECRET was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. A veterinary inspection of GORGEOUS LIFE after the race did not show any significant findings. KINGSTON ELITE, HONG KONG FAT and SCENT OF OSMANTHUS were sent for sampling.
