PAKISTAN FRIEND was withdrawn on 18.6.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (fever) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter CHAIRMAN LO. Before being allowed to race again, PAKISTAN FRIEND will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On arrival at the Start, it was noted that HIGH RISE SOLDIER had shifted its left front plate. After this plate was refitted, HIGH RISE SOLDIER was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. PRECIOUS EXPRESS began only fairly. GLORIOUS LOVER shifted out at the start and bumped THE ROCK which in turn shifted out and inconvenienced AMAZING CHOCOLATE. After this, despite being ridden along in the early stages, AMAZING CHOCOLATE failed to muster speed. From the outside barriers, AWE and CHAIRMAN LO were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Despite being hard ridden in the early stages, LE TERROIR failed to muster speed. Apprentice C L Chau (TAKING AIM) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 1300 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of KA YING EXCELLENT, resulting in that horse being directed in onto FLYING VICTORY which was unnecessarily hampered and lost ground and in turn was taken in onto HIGH RISE SOLDIER and PRECIOUS EXPRESS, causing those horses to also be hampered when crowded for room. In this incident, LE TERROIR, which was racing inside PRECIOUS EXPRESS, was inconvenienced. Apprentice Chau was suspended from riding in races for the racemeeting to be conducted at Happy Valley on Wednesday, 8 July 2020. As such, Apprentice Chau is eligible to resume race riding on Thursday, 9 July 2020. In addition, Apprentice Chau was fined $15,000. After the 1000 Metres, FLYING VICTORY was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the 700 Metres, HIGH RISE SOLDIER commenced to travel keenly and was steadied away from the heels of GLORIOUS LOVER. Passing the 400 Metres, Apprentice C Wong (AWE) dropped his right rein. Approaching the 200 Metres, CHAIRMAN LO was shifted in away from the heels of FLYING VICTORY which shifted in after initially laying out earlier in the Straight. Throughout the race, GLORIOUS LOVER travelled wide and without cover. After the race, M L Yeung reported that after SUPER QILIN came under pressure near the 600 Metres, the horse made an abnormal breathing noise. He said after this SUPER QILIN gave ground noticeably. A veterinary inspection of SUPER QILIN immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. The performance of SUPER QILIN, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER QILIN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of HIGH RISE SOLDIER and FLYING VICTORY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. AMAZING CHOCOLATE and KA YING EXCELLENT were sent for sampling. <22/6/2020 Additional Veterinary Report>HIGH RISE SOLDIER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. HIGH RISE SOLDIER was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K W Lui this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, HIGH RISE SOLIDER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
