At the 1400 Metres, BEAUTY LEGEND got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of ABOVE ALL (B Prebble) which shifted in when barely clear. B Prebble was reprimanded and advised that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in future. When questioned, J Lloyd stated that he was concerned with FEARLESS’ action throughout the race and he had to continually niggle at the horse to maintain its position. He said he rode FEARLESS along in the early part of the Straight, however, the horse shortened stride appreciably near the 200 Metres and as he had prior concern regarding the action of the horse, he immediately eased it out of the race. A veterinary inspection of FEARLESS after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of FEARLESS was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FEARLESS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ABOVE ALL, SAPELLI and BEAUTY FOREVER were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that ABOVE ALL had sustained a cut to the outside of the right hind heel.
