As the start was effected, MASCOT FORTUNE, which was being assisted by a starting gate handler, reared and consequently lost ground. At the start, ISTIDE and MASTER TOUCH bumped. FLYING SUPREME began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, DUKE`S VICTORY and DEPOSER bumped. From a wide draw, SUNRISE was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Near the 850 Metres, GREAT RENOWN and ISTIDE raced tight inside BEJEWELED. Rounding the Home Turn, FLYING SUPREME and DUKE`S VICTORY made contact as a result of FLYING SUPREME attempting to shift to the outside of FINAL ANSWER. MASCOT FORTUNE was steadied and shifted out near the 350 Metres when disappointed for running between ISTIDE and GREAT RENOWN which shifted out. Throughout the race, BEJEWELED travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FINAL ANSWER, D Beadman stated that the horse, which was fractious in the barriers, reared on two occasions including just as the gates opened. He said because of this FINAL ANSWER was slow to begin. He said he allowed the horse to improve its position in the early stages of the race, however, FINAL ANSWER proved difficult to settle and over-raced in the middle stages. He said due to FINAL ANSWER racing keenly during the race, the horse was not able to finish off the race when shifted into clear running in the Straight. He said, in his opinion, FINAL ANSWER, which was attempting 1400 Metres for the first time today, may be better suited in faster run races over a shorter distance. A veterinary inspection of FINAL ANSWER after the race showed that the horse was agitated and distressed. Before being allowed to race again, FINAL ANSWER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FINAL ANSWER, DEPOSER and MASTER TOUCH were sent for sampling.
