March 20th: In a dirt trial over 1200m, Last Ace faced challenges but fought to win. Eight weeks ago, in a Sha Tin turf 1200m race, he performed poorly, settling mid-pack and fading in the final section. A subsequent barrier trial showed some improvement. Returning to dirt over 1200m, this horse has four starts without a win at this distance and faces unfavorable conditions. A hold-up strategy could see him unable to make up enough ground in the final stages, and the trainer-jockey combination isn't ideal. However, respectable time figures and serious preparation mean he cannot be completely discounted.
