On 18/6, the horse ran a dirt trial 1200m (5-5-4) but started slowly, though he closed in near the finish and was not far behind. Five weeks ago, his performance over a Happy Valley mile was poor; he showed effort but faded in the final stages and suffered a heavy defeat. A recent trial showed adequate performance. Running on dirt over 1000m this time, he carries two pounds less and has a reasonable expected pace in the group. The partnership between jockey and trainer remains smooth; despite having five consecutive losses, a slightly disadvantaged position in this race, and somewhat reduced finishing kick, he still has a chance to contend.
