2/9 (Dirt trial 1200m: 8-8-7) ran with a straight run, casually tracking. This is his first start this season; eight weeks ago he performed excellently over a Happy Valley 1600m, maintaining his position towards the rear with a steady pace throughout and gradually closing in in the final stages to finish as runner-up, beaten only half a length. A trial barrier run did not match his pace. He has since trialed over a Happy Valley mile, and this race he carries four pounds less. With four wins in 31 starts, his timing is acceptable for this group; although the circumstances are slightly unfavorable, his draw isn't ideal, and his finishing kick is somewhat lacking, he might still have a chance.
