PATCH OF WATCH

On May 6th, the horse recorded strong finishing speed in a dirt trial over 1200m (sections: 2-1-1), easily outpacing rivals. Five weeks ago, it underperformed in a Happy Valley sprint, with a slow jump and settling towards the back but demonstrating a strong late run to finish fourth, beaten by half a length. A subsequent barrier trial showed improvement. Returning to dirt over 1200m for its first local start, this time carrying a nine-pound weight reduction, it has proven form over this distance and comparable times to horses in the same group. It is expected to contend for the lead, benefitting from a favorable draw. Based on overall ability compared to other runners, it appears superior, with Britney Wong taking the ride; the jockey seems to have some understanding of the horse's capabilities, and trainer/jockey are aligned in their approach. A clean break should see it push forward aggressively.
